After the results of the elections in China’s Taiwan region were announced, few Swedish officials blatantly extended their congratulations, which seriously interferes in China’s internal affairs and severely violates the one-China principle. The Chinese side strongly deplores and firmly opposes this.

The Taiwan question is China’s internal affair. The elections in Taiwan are the affairs of a region in China. Whatever changes take place in Taiwan, the basic fact that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China will not change; the Chinese government’s position of upholding the one-China principle and opposing “Taiwan independence” separatism, “two Chinas” and “one China, one Taiwan” will not change; and the international community’s prevailing consensus on upholding the one-China principle and long-standing and overwhelming adherence to this principle will not change. China will realize reunification and this is unstoppable. 

The Taiwan question is the core of China’s core interests. China urges the Swedish side to abide by the one-China principle, not to send wrong signals to the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces, and take concrete actions to maintain the stable development of China-Sweden relations.
