Chinese Embassy Spokesperson's Remarks on the So-called "China's Possible Interference in Swedish Election"
2018/09/11

Sweden held its general election on 9 September, which is a major event in Sweden’s political life. We are happy to see that the election went on well and that the political wills of the Swedish voters were fully expressed.

As the election has successfully completed, we would like to solemnly point out that recently a small handful of Swedish forces, media and individuals have made unwarranted claims that “China may have interfered in the Swedish election”. These are nothing but groundless accusations, and malicious attack and smear against China. This fictitious claim that these people made up and tried to hype up is based entirely on speculation and out of hidden agenda, without any factual support.

Non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs is a basic principle of China’s foreign policy. China does not interfere in other countries’ internal affairs and firmly opposes interference in its own internal affairs by external forces. We hope the small handful of forces, media and individuals in Sweden stop making irresponsible accusations against and framing China, base what they say on facts and make more efforts to promote friendship between the two countries and peoples.

Sweden is the first western country to establish diplomatic ties with China. China is willing to continue to develop cooperation and friendship with Sweden on the basis of equality, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
